About the exhibition
Gandharan Buddhas, Mauryan pillars and Mathuran Yakshis — the first flowering of Indian sculptural genius, assembled from five national collections.
From the polished sandstone of Ashoka's edicts to the Greco-Buddhist idealism of Gandhara, this exhibition traces the birth of Indian figural art across six centuries. Objects are paired with new conservation photography and 3-D scans revealing tool marks invisible to the naked eye.
